IMS | JM Case Intake Supervisor Brittany Kearney embodies our organization’s dedication to delivering exceptional client service. With her strong legal background and meticulous, people-first approach, Brittany is central to streamlining the intake process and ensuring every client interaction is seamless and efficient.
In this spotlight, Brittany reflects on her path to IMS | JM, the aspects of her role she finds most fulfilling, and how the company’s mission aligns with her personal commitment to client success.
Q: How/why did you get into this industry?
A: My journey into the legal field began in 2014, thanks to the encouragement and guidance of my sister-in-law. At the time, I was searching for a career that offered both longevity and the opportunity to leverage my strong attention to detail and process-oriented mindset. When the opportunity to enter the legal industry presented itself, I seized it. I am incredibly grateful to my sister-in-law for opening that door and to this industry for offering me continuous growth and exciting opportunities.
Q: How did you find IMS | JM?
A: I first encountered IMS | JM during my time as a paralegal, where I became familiar with their medical expert services and was consistently impressed by the team's professionalism. I reached a point in my career when I was seeking a new challenge with growth opportunities, and I discovered that IMS | JM was hiring for a case manager position. I was excited by the prospect of expanding my skill set and learning a new role while utilizing my paralegal experience. It felt like the perfect fit, and I eagerly embraced the opportunity.
Q: What do you like most about your specific department and/or role?
A: I began my career at IMS | JM as a case manager, and I immediately enjoyed engaging with attorney clients and medical experts. Transitioning into the role of Case Intake Coordinator allowed me to retain the best aspects of that experience—maintaining meaningful interactions with both clients and experts. As a “people person,” this aspect of my job is incredibly fulfilling. I take great pride in going above and beyond for those I work with, and it is truly rewarding to make a positive impact in our clients’ cases.
Q: What internal accomplishment are you most proud of?
A: I am most proud of the professional growth I have achieved, which has also contributed to my personal development. The unwavering support, constructive feedback, and opportunities provided by my leadership team have been instrumental in pushing me outside my comfort zone. These experiences have been pivotal to my growth over the past four years with the company.
Q: Are there any stories/memories you would like to share?
A: I have many memorable moments from my time with IMS | JM, but one that stands out the most is when our Senior Vice President Mike Holmes amazed us by reciting every employee's first and last name at an all-employee meeting—just days after joining the company. I was truly impressed by his dedication to making a personal connection with each of us. It really showed his genuine care and commitment to the team from the very beginning.
Q: What do you think sets IMS | JM apart from competitors or other companies?
A: What truly sets IMS | JM apart is our exceptional customer service. To further enhance the client experience, we recently launched our case intake department, which I have the privilege of supervising alongside Director of Case Management Robyn Priest. This innovation allows our case managers to focus on managing cases while the case intake team refines and streamlines our intake process. However, our commitment to improvement does not stop there. We are constantly evolving as a company to ensure that both our clients and experts receive the white-glove service they deserve.
Q: How do the IMS | JM core values align with your own?
A: The core values at IMS | JM resonate deeply with my own personal principles. For example, “Honor the Relationship” emphasizes dependability, honesty, and integrity—qualities that are central to my approach both at work and in my personal life. It is important to me that my colleagues, as well as my family and friends, know they can always rely on me. Another core value I strongly connect with is “Humble Confidence.” We all have room for growth, and there are always opportunities to learn. Being open to feedback and knowing when to lead or follow are essential practices that I strive to embody every day.
Q: If you were an attorney-client (or an expert witness), what would you find most valuable about the process at IMS | JM?
A: I would find value in the collaborative spirit we have here. Whether it is our clients or experts, they know they can reach out to almost anyone in the company, and we will make every effort to assist them or direct them to the right place for a swift resolution. Our shared goal is to consistently enhance the client and expert experience. Whatever it takes to work together and ensure a seamless process, we are always ready to step up and deliver.
Q: Do you have any predictions or comments on industry trends?
A: I believe the role of medical experts in legal work will continue to expand, as we have observed in recent years at IMS | JM. One evolving trend I am particularly interested in is virtual technology. Significant advancements have enabled virtual depositions in addition to remote trial appearances. As developments continue, I expect both clients and experts will advocate for virtual proceedings due to the greater convenience and flexibility.
Q: What has been your favorite case to work on so far?
A: I would not say I have one specific favorite case, but I find that cases presenting new and unfamiliar challenges tend to leave a lasting impression on me. I remember my first writ case, where I had the opportunity to collaborate closely with the attorney to understand the intricacies of what was needed. I also recall our first cases in South and North Carolina, diving into the unique aspects of their state laws. In essence, any case that challenges me to learn and grow is the one that stands out as my favorite.
