Read on to learn how Sandy found JM, what she values most about her role, thoughts on industry trends, and more.
Q: How/why did you get into this industry?
A: When I started college, my focus leaned toward science and biology. I later returned to college after my youngest daughter started school, where I enrolled in a legal research class and really enjoyed it. I ultimately received a bachelor of science in paralegal studies.
Q: How did you find/why did you choose JM?
A: A former co-worker reached out to me, inquiring if I would be interested in working at JM. I was unfamiliar with the company at the time but was aware of my colleague's positive experience and the challenges she found in her new role. Given my longstanding interest in the medical field, JM appeared to be the perfect fit for me – legal and medical combined.
Q: What do you like most about your specific department and/or role?
A: Working with the experts is really great. My role has given me invaluable insights into various specialties' nuances. Our experts are always willing to share their knowledge. I am fortunate to be able to get to know them and develop relationships with them, which is very rewarding.
Q: What do you think sets JM apart from competitors or other companies?
A: Our white-glove service and our incredible panel of experts continue to grow every day. In case management, we strive to meet and anticipate our clients' and experts' needs. We work closely with them to make sure both parties have what they need to meet their deadlines.
Q: If you were an attorney-client (or an expert witness), what would you find most valuable about the process at JM?
A: I think what is most valuable about The JM Process is our comprehensive support, guiding clients through every stage of their expert requirements. From expert selection to file review, which may include facilitating an independent medical examination (IME) or scheduling a deposition and trial appearance, JM offers assistance to both clients and expert witnesses.
Q: Do you have any predictions or comments on industry trends?
A: Depositions via Zoom have been a game changer. Where travel might otherwise be an impediment, virtual depositions, and meetings have greatly reduced those limitations.
Another trend is the scheduling of IMEs. Following an expert's meticulous medical records review, clients often require IMEs to enhance their cases. Our in-house medical exam room enables us to seamlessly schedule and conduct these examinations with our expert panel.
Q: What has been your favorite case to work on so far?
A: One of my most memorable cases was a multidistrict litigation (MDL) assignment, which proved to be both intellectually stimulating and challenging. Effective organization was pivotal to our success, affording me the opportunity to collaborate with a diverse range of experts within the context of a single case.
